About Katie

My Approach

After years in the industry, I have found getting results is all about finding Your “Why”!  It is the reason why you feel a pull back to health and fitness and the things you miss being able to do!  It is Personal Training with a plan tailored to your lifestyle and goals.  And creating programs based around functional fitness remembering to look at preventing injury while working toward bigger and bigger goals. I’ve never been one to stress a certain body shape or size; male or female. It all comes down to being able to do all the things you want to do.

If you are looking for a one size fits all program an all or nothing approach or promises of a quick fix, I am not your trainer. If you are looking to learn the tools to create a blueprint that works for you, I can’t wait to get started. Are you ready to step into marathons, or triathlons but don’t know where to start? Do you know how to prepare for your next marathon without having to drop out again because of a stress fracture?  Do you have the level of fitness you need to play with your friends, children and grandchildren? Then Lets get started! Fitness is a way of life, it is not only eating right but making time in your busy schedule to do something healthy for you. You are the only person who can decide to make fitness a part of your life. Find out how much this one lifestyle change can affect your life.

My Story

It is a bit of a long one, but really explains how I got where I am today and why I do what I do!

After competing in gymnastics from the ages of 10-21; through Level 10, I knew all about how much fitness and activity could change someone’s life and body.  What I didn’t know was “why” to continue when there were no more meets and no more competitions.  I didn’t know why I was gaining weight when I was working out 1-2 hours a day, on top of 20+ hours of classes, a busy Athletic Training Schedule with various teams at Ohio University and trying have a life with friends.  I didn’t realize that my entire identity was wrapped up in gymnastics, it was what I was good at, people knew I was a gymnast and coach and now that was gone!  I had to go back to the drawing board, 40+ hours of training in the gym each week had set my metabolism to unrealistic expectations, years of keeping a food journal for my coaches had created an unhealthy relationship with food that was a real struggle to balance. And by balance I do not mean perfection! I am far from perfection and striving for it takes me to unhealthy places. Balance is simply a LIFESTYLE you can live with, enjoy and still achieve your goals. And above all, I had to find a new “WHY”.

I remained active during both of my pregnancies and worked hard to return to the activities I have grown to love! This didn’t start well! My first born spent much of his first two year of life screaming! Between tummy troubles, personality, reflux and who knows what, he was not a happy camper! I would try to take him on my runs and spend at least half of it trying to nurse him on the bike path. Fun, huh? And if I left him with my husband or my parents the stress in the room when I returned could be cut with a knife. Understandably so! So over time my enjoyment of my workouts, my “me time”, my mental health time was now becoming another stress! I get it, it is so hard to get back at it but it was so worth it. It is hard to accept that my workout time is something different now that I have kids. It took time but I now love participating in all distances of Triathlons, I have completed several Marathons, 1/2 Marathons, and various Obstacle Races.  I have learned it is okay to not be on the podium at every event, that limitations are worth working through even if it means you won’t win!  I have learned that you can balance training and family schedule without spending endless hours training every day! And above all; I have learned my real “why” is so I can enjoy my life with my family, and show my boys (by example) how to work hard and make health and fitness a part of their daily life, even when it is outside of competitive sports.

I have worked as an Athletic Trainer,  Personal Trainer, Spinning Instructor, Running/Triathlon Coach, Nutrition Coach and Life Coach along with teaching Personal Fitness Trainer Certifications for AFAA across the East Coast since 2002.  I use my personal and professional background to help people with all levels of fitness to meet people where they are, but help them find their “why” to become their best version of themselves.  So whether you are just starting out and need a plan that starts slow, or a seasoned athlete who needs to be challenged, or just someone who needs a jump start to their current fitness program, I can design a program that is right for you.
